In Memoriam
Lawrence C. Rael (1943 - 2020)
Rael Development Corporation was founded by Lawrence Charles Rael, of blessed memory. Mr. Rael immigrated to the U.S. from South Africa in 1977 with his wife and three young children. A practicing attorney in South Africa, Mr. Rael turned his attention to real estate immediately upon landing in the U.S. With limited access to credit, early investments included single-family homes which Mr. Rael personally renovated, re-tenanted and re-sold for gains. One became two, two became four, and ultimately, Mr. Rael was able to incorporate Rael Development Corporation in 1984. For nearly two decades, Mr. Rael steadily grew his company, with quality multi-family, industrial and retail investments across Southern California. In 2000, he was joined in business by his son and current CEO, Graeme Rael. Over nearly 20 years together, they built RDC into a widely-respected investment and development company, specializing in student housing development at major Universities from Coast to Coast.
Mr. Rael was a skilled investor, a veteran real estate professional and a guiding force over many decades. More than that, he was a man of impeccable character - a true gentleman. He resided in Southern California for over 40 years, leaving his mark on organizations throughout the region and beyond. His loss is felt deeply, but his legacy of generosity, integrity and humility lives on in the hearts of his family and employees of Rael Development Corporation.
